Islam gives great importance to seeking knowledge. The very first verse revealed in the Quran commands to read.

The First Command of the Quran

"Read in the name of your Lord who created." (Surah Al-Alaq 96:1)

Virtues of Knowledge

The Prophet (PBUH) said: "Seeking knowledge is an obligation upon every Muslim." (Ibn Majah)

Allah says: "Are those who know equal to those who do not know?" (Surah Az-Zumar 39:9)

Status of the Learned

The Prophet (PBUH) said: "The superiority of the scholar over the worshipper is like the superiority of the full moon over all other stars." (Tirmidhi)

A knowledgeable person is like light in society — they themselves are enlightened and enlighten others.
